With deep concern for the safety of our equine and human athletes, we must cancel the 2024 Steeplechase of Charleston presented by Lexus, scheduled for Sunday, November 10, at Stono Ferry Racetrack. The prolonged drought in our region has left the ground overly hard and dry. This creates turf which is not suitable for racing. For the full story, read here.
As our Race Director Toby Edwards explains, "The safety of our horses and jockeys must always come first." The prolonged drought has left our grounds overly hard and dry for safe racing, and we simply cannot risk the wellbeing of both horse and jockey. Read more about the conditions of the track here.
We know this news comes as a disappointment – we feel it too. "This decision affects our entire steeplechase family - from our dedicated horsemen to our passionate spectators," said Chris Zoeller, Executive Director.
"The commitment of our owners, trainers, jockeys, and stable staff, along with the enthusiasm of our sponsors, merchants, partners and of course our fans, has made this event a cherished Lowcountry tradition. With such strong community support, we are dedicated to creating an experience that will showcase the very best of our sport for generations to come."

Parking assignments may change due to excessive rain or inclement weather. All items are non-refundable, all sales are final.
