Project Pascalis is the city of Aiken’s name for an ambitious project to revitalize the downtown area. Plans call for a 100-key boutique hotel, a 117-unit apartment complex, a conference center and a parking garage, all to be located in a key downtown location.

Redevelopment has been a topic for a number of years, with some ideas pitched but never fully realized. The city created a municipal development commission and, in late 2021, city officials announced a plan to go forward with Project Pascalis.

The plans have been fluid, with officials giving the public a chance to review and comment. Critics have been vocal and are concerned about maintaining Aiken’s historic appeal.

Reporter Matthew Christian and editors John Boyette and Holly Kemp discuss what’s next for Project Pascalis.
