You are cordially invited to attend the Omar: Revealing the Journey fundraising event on May 25, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. at the Charleston Gaillard Center.

This unique event, developed in connection to Spoleto Festival USA's 2022 world premiere of opera Omar, will provide a perspective on Omar Ibn Said from The Post and Courier journalists who traveled to Senegal to search for his true identity and take his writings home.

Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be enjoyed while touring the gallery of images from Senegal by Post and Courier photojournalist Gavin McIntyre. Guests will preview Spoleto’s Omar opera with an aria performed by Laquita Mitchell, accompanied by Diane Richardson.

The evening will culminate with a panel discussion with The Post and Courier Managing Editor Autumn Phillips and Projects Reporter Jennifer Berry Hawes and McIntyre as they share experiences from their journey to create the story “I Am Omar.”

Limited tickets are available for $150 each. As a very special gift, the first 100 people to purchase tickets will receive an early copy of The Post and Courier’s story “I Am Omar,” signed by renowned Lowcountry artist Jonathan Green.

Omar: Revealing the Journey is a fundraiser for The Post and Courier Public Service and Investigative Reporting Fund. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the fund.

Please note: COVID-19 restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of our guests.

Produced by South Carolina Event Productions.

Tickets must be purchased prior to event.
